18th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival
In the majestic rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on Saturday, April 15th, the 19th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival will return to Green Hill Park. Hosted by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce, this event includes free admission, free parking, free t-shirts for the first 500 kids, free Kroger kites and free ice-cream while supplies last. Fun for all ages, the festival boasts attendance of more than 10,000 from all over the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The Richmond Air Force Kite Club will dazzle the crowd with enormous handmade kites and extraordinary flying stunts.
It is a great outdoor day of kite fun and celebration accented by many happy kite flyers of all skill levels in addition to arts, crafts, and corporate vendors along with tasty service by amazing food vendors. The field is large enough for kids to run and play and fly kites while others will nap on a blanket, stare at the kite covered sky or simply sit and enjoy excellent people watching and event happenings across the park.
